Freeform pieces come in precision-cut 2-cm. increments (2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 cm.) with large 2 cm. disks and bridges to support successful building and early math and metric system learning. Diameter of blocks varies. Typical set includes "Y" or forked pieces. We lovingly finish each unique set with flax oil.  Ages 3 to adult. Safe, lab tested. Conforms to CPSC & ASTM 963- F, and EN 71. Made from wood from managed paper forests and abandoned fruit trees. Apple, cherry & hazelnut are orchard trees that are abandoned or at the end of their productive cycle plots. This leaves the farmer clean soil and seed money, so he can be back into production. Elder is a larger soft wood tree used for the big disks. They plant in managed forests on a 50CM grid. A few years go by and they cut every other tree, creating a 1 M grid. A few more years go by and they cut every other again to leave a 2 Meter grid, ideal for use of soil to maximize pulp. Also, the growing method leaves straight tall tree with minimal low branches, ideal to process. The "every others" that are cut are used for these blocks.. Otherwise they would be piled and burned; too small to make into pulp. The standard measure of maple unit blocks (regular kids wooden blocks) is 3/4", virtually the same as 2 cm.
